Dry skin has very low levels of sebum. This is one reason why dry skin is so prone to sensitivity and has a parched look. The skin’s inability to retain the moisture causes it to feel dry and parched. Dry skin usually feels very tight and you get uncomfortable after washing it. You need to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized at all times. Chapping, cracking and flakes of dryness are all signs of extremely dehydrated and dry skin.
Home Remedies To Care For Dry Skin
Here are a few tips you can use to care for dry skin at home. If you have dry skin that is prone to rashes and causes itching in dry weathers, this guide to care for dry skin is going to help you retain moisture in your skin and make it look fresh and supple at all times.
1. Use Tap Water For Cleansing Dry Skin
People who have dry skin should never use tap water for washing or cleansing dry skin. The deposits in tap water are one of the main causes why your skin dries up after you wash it. Always use mineral water to cleanse, wash or freshen your face no matter where you are or where you need to go.
2. Mist Your Skin With Mineral Water
Use a plant sprayer to apply some spray of mineral water. Mist your skin entirely with mineral water when you wake up early in the morning and then pat your skin dry. Do not use tissues or towels to wipe out for dry skin.
3. Use Moisturizing Body/ Face Wash
Dry skin needs extra protection and care. You should cleanse your skin regularly and with quality products. Avoid using soaps to cleanse dry skin as the soap not only removes grime and dirt, but also strips away the natural oils which protect the skin. Use a good moisturizing body or face wash to care for dry skin regularly. A moisturizer will increase the water content of the outer layers of your dry skin and will also give it a soft and supple look.
4. Always Double Cleanse Your Skin
Always use products with neutral pH to cleanse your skin. Make sure they are non-detergent too. Please don’t use any commercial soap as they harm your already sensitive skin. Never touch your face harshly. Always pat it or touch it very lightly lest the need arises. Also, always double cleanse your skin. After you are done cleansing once, leave a very light layer of the cleanser on the skin after the second time.
5. Apply Baby Oil On Your Body
After your bath or shower, make sure you apply baby oil on your entire body. On your face, you can use a home-made nourishing cream for massage. Every night before retiring to bed, make sure you massage your face with a quality night nourishing cream. Use the cream generously and apply a good amount of it near the eyes where crow’s feet and laugh lines emerge in old age.
6. Avoid Alkaline Soaps
If your skin is dry, then you should avoid coming in contact with alkaline soaps, washing powders, liquids, detergents and all other products which include drying and highly alkaline ingredients. Exposing your skin to such materials can cause your skin to become extremely dry and be prone to rashes, irritability and also redness.
7. Use Air Excluding Moisturizer
To restore the suppleness of your skin, always moisten it with water and then use an air-excluding moisturizer and apply a very thin layer of it on your skin. Follow it on your daily basis as an essential step while you care for dry skin.
8. Use Formulated Eye Gel
If you feel dryness or itching around your eyes, do not put on heavy layers of creams directly. The skin around the eyes is very thin and hefty application of creams can cause it to puff up and will become the major cause of sagging the skin here eventually. If you feel irritation around your eyes, always use a specially formulated eye gel or cream to ease away the irritation.
9. Take Perfumed Milk Bath
Take a milk bath every once a week. It works wonders to smoothen, nourish and care for dry skin on the whole. Warm the water you will use for your bath and then put in 250g of powdered milk, half tbsp of almond oil and a few drops of your perfume in the water. Lie in the mixture you’ve created for about half an hour. Relax and the mixture will work wonders on your skin.
10. Use Beauty Masks
